Agree or Disagree? And Why?

What is my opinion on Greed?

I will venture out here on a whim and say that greed is good on all accounts. The videos that were presented in thediscussion board were very short, however very much to the point which was much appreciated.Althoughmost people might thinkthat people that are "greedy" are doing things only to benefit themselves, greed is a motivating factor for this individual or group. Greed can be used in many ways and not just a factor for only monetary gain. Greed is the fuel that drives us to do morethan what we originally plan for. On the economic front, if there was no greed that means people would not "want" for anything, therefore not making purchases on any items, thus not driving the economy (either macro or micro).Using the text, we need to analyze what the problem is. In this case, is there a certain situation that is taking place to cause the debate on whether an individual or company was being greedy? By figuring out what main reason was, we may be able to figure out what the mindset is of the audience and the sender regarding greed. Ultimately, we will be able to make an educated solution to what the problem entails.

Is it all semantics or is it a real issue?

This word "Greed" is strictly semantics. It can be used in manydifferentways and contexts based on the view of the person speaking about what greed is and what role it plays within society. According the Merriam-Webster the definition of Greed is "the language used to achieve a desired effect on an audience especially through the use of words with novel or dual meanings" (Merriam-Webster, 2020). We have plenty of evidence this regarding what people say and how they mean it. Like Mr. Friedman mentioned in the video, our politicians use this type of lingo all the time and they do not choose their running mare based strictly on what type of people they are. The word Greed is subjective to the sender and thereceiver in the conversation which can lead to misunderstanding or defiance.

What other ways can economic growth occur, if at all? There are plenty of waysthat economic growth can happen within a country. One of those ways we just witnessed a few weeks ago. A stimulation payment from the president while the local stateswere shut downfor the most part, in order to get the people of thatstate to spend money on thingsthat are needed to include, rent, bills, mortgage, etc. If the citizen was all paid in full, then most likely, this money was used to stimulate the local economy but putting it in the hands of local business or organizations. Another waythat economic growth canoccur is with the use of tax breaks, although this option would take a bit longer to realize what the impact ison the local, state, federal economy. Third, relaxing the rulesthat are placed on companies. Relaxing these rules can allow companies to operate at a larger capacity, however using this may sometimes lead to companies performing outside the spectrum of their roles and duties. We can see this at companies like Wells Fargo or the mortgage downfall of 2008.Lastly, a reduction to the barriers that are in place which prevent trade or allow exchanges of goods between parties. The more people that are giving their money in exchange for goods will cause economic growth.

Ultimately, by getting citizens involved in the community and encouraging people to spend their money in the local economy will result in economic growth. This will then, hopefully cause an uptick in the employment which will help the economy out a bit as well.

I was able to locate a video that I found helpful in attempting to understand this week's discussion. The text was laid out a bit different regarding this concept of greed. This video broke it down pretty easily for me to understand and helped me with the basic concept of what economic growth is and how we can get there.
