As of September, '22, she has been working there for 15 years, as far back as when it was owned by Tim McGraw. Following the loosening up of pandemic related restrictions, the business of gyms in Scarborough has been booming. Last week, Alison was contacted by a head-hunter on behalf of Selena Deon and her French company, Power Workouts, who are expanding into Scarborough, spreading their message of power: Power of love, power of the dream, and becoming more powerful and stronger through the wires from coast to coast in Canada. Alison currently makes $100,000 a year in her management position. She is not a gold digger but being able to love yourself and buy red Louboutin shoes instead of knock-off maroon ones, as well as owning a white horse, are some of her wildest dreams that are presently unattainable in this economic climate. In her initial discussions with Selena, she has been told that there is only one road to achieving this success, which is to leave Kanye and tell him that opportunities are calling you over to Power. Selena promised her a raise of $10,000 at a minimum, plus flexibility in her hours, that you wouldn't think twice about turning down. Privately, Selena is unsure if going with Alison is the right move with the expansion since she isn't sure about how they would work together. Selena also discussed the opportunity with her junior manager, Justin Belieber to head up the new gym. He has been with the company since he was an eenie meenie baby, putting in 10,000 hours and up to make business boom. He is the kind of employee that companies love. He can move mountains and bring water from the moon if you asked him to do so. Justin isn't perfect, however. He once bungled a membership drive email, mistitling it "Beauty and a Beat", rather than "Beauty and the Beast." He is also not very familiar with the city and how different laws would be from Montreal. Selena stated the business all by herself, and it's all coming back to her now, with this expansion. She hopes Justin will stay and not ghost her for another company. She told him to hold on and don't go, whether he gets the promotion or not, but she can't be sure what his intentions are, given he is eager to trade in eating Montreal smoked meat and imported peaches from Georgia to Scarborough beef patties, and would be left in a bad mood if passed over with nothing broken, but his heart. However, Selena feels it's unfair to promote Justin simply because he loved me so much, to stay so long. Selena's heart will go on if Alison takes the job and Justin leaves and that's the way it is in business. Sometimes you have to love it more than the employees themselves. Meanwhile, Alison is intrigued by the opportunity to shake off the same routine at Good Life and to begin again with a blank space in a new company. She has been working in a lavender haze of late, feeling lethargic and unproductive being stuck in this labyrinth. However, she doesn't know if she is being misled by Selena, nor if she is ready for it, and is concerned that this would be trouble, especially with leaving her volatile current boss, Kanye East, exiled in the willows. The money is not as important as feeling valued and given creative freedom to mastermind projects. She has been praised by her colleagues at Good Life as an anti-hero for asking questions and pushing for more innovation, even though it has amounted to a sweet nothing in actual results. Alison does not want bad blood with Kanye, who is very vindictive, especially if she breaks the news that they are never, ever, getting back together. Alison realizes that she should go to Kanye and ask him to address her concerns. However, she is intimidated to ask Kanye, as she can't tell him nothing without him snapping and sparks flying. She hopes he will give her 45 seconds to speak, before interrupting her like he did the last time she asked for a raise. That incident left her in tears, as Kanye said another manager, Destiny Beyonce, was amazing and more deserving. Alison gave herself a pep talk by looking in the mirror and saying that "you need to calm down, be fearless and take care of Me! Get what's mine and just tell Kanye, look what you made me do, by passing me over for Ronan, Betty, and Destiny!" She scheduled a meeting with Kanye to discuss changes to her employment contract next Thursday. On the other hand, Kanye is facing increased competition in the Greater Toronto Area, and new competitors are poaching his best employees. Kim Cardigan ran away to Pete's Pump You Up, after they promised her all of the lights, bells, and whistles that she was not getting at Good Life Fitness. His top trainer, Otis Miguel Jesus, walked over to Hurricane 6ix Pack, another employee dazzled by the flashing lights and perks competitors offer such as free hot lunches, which were a lot better than eating the cold ham and cheese sandwiches that Good Life has. Kanye claims that he is not a cold, heartless monster and wants his employees to stay forever, but inflation and interest rates are so high that he can't match the diamonds they are seeking. When it all falls down, he will be in a better position to compete with these salaries. He is hoping to be able to retain Alison but is paranoid that she is bound to depart, given that he has been forced to work her all day as she is the only one of his "inner clique" still remaining. While getting ready for the Thursday meeting with Alison, Kanye also received a notification that Justin Bieber Sent him an email. Justin was inquiring if there would be any opportunities at Good Life for him. Justin is looking for more money. He explained in his cover letter that "What do I mean to achieve in a position at Good Life, is a financial improvement from where I am now. I don't care about what the specific role would be, but I would appreciate any opportunity to shine." Justin does not value freedom and flexibility as much as getting a raise from his current $50,000 salary a perhaps a one-time bonus. He thought he would have been given the opportunity to head up the new gym, but he has noticed Selena has been aggressively trying to woo Alison instead of him. He is a little concerned about being lonely in Scarborough but is confident he can make friends and that someone would make him their boyfriend there anyhow. He feels sorry for looking elsewhere, but at the same time, he doesn't want to be stuck with her being overworked and underpaid, when more lucrative opportunities are there in Toronto and all around the world. Although he is not a holy person, he said a prayer that applying to Good Life will be the right move for him, if nothing more than giving him leverage when discussing a raise with Selena.
