Q1 - A Mass Balance (50 points) Glenda Goodland owns the Smiling Valley Ranch in Northern California. Smiling ranch occupies the entirety of Smiling Valley with an area of approximately 1920 acres. The land includes several homes for the Goodland family and ranch support team. They have a mix of range land, alfalfa fields, and orchards. Over time they have planted more almonds and reduced their rangelands. A mountain stream flows into Smiling Valley to which the Goodlands own full appropriative and riparians rights to. The stream exits the bottom of the Valley. The aquifer is generally shallow and we can assume that there is very little groundwater flow across the limits of the valley. The Goodlands drink well water. Gray water is discharged to leachfields. They irrigate primarily with surface water but augment with groundwater in more remote areas of the valley and during dry periods when the stream is low. Glenda noticed that the down tube on the old hand pump well had gone dry. She asked you to do a hydrologic study of Smiling Valley Ranch and help them figure out what is going on. After studies and review of records we collected the following data (see .xls file): 1 HYD/EBS 144 Fall 2022 Homework \#5 B. 20 Points - Submit a completed Mass Balance Spreadsheet with all calculations used for this exercises fully traceable within the calculations cells.
