1. Amelie owns a large estate in England which includes a manor house, a cottage and ten acres of land. She is a childless widow who was left to manage a largely dilapidated estate when her husband died, leaving her little money to do so. Amelie approached Henrik, her 20-year-old godson, to help her turn it into gardens to attract paying visitors to the estate which would enable her to carry out repairs to the manor. She told him, "I can't afford to pay you until it becomes profitable, but you can live in the cottage rent-free."

Over five years the grounds are transformed by the hard work of both Amelie and Henrik, but was is still not making a profit from visitors. Amelie said to Henrik, "I still don't have cash because I need to repair the manor, but if you keep working for me, when I die you can take over the estate." Henrik thought this meant that he would inherit the land entirely. He continued working there, living rent-free in the cottage and turned down job offers to manage other estates.

Ten years later, Amelie died and left the estate to her niece, Jolle.
