An agent for positive change can be defined as someone who has the capability to influence and motivate those around them to accomplish whatever shared task needed to achieve a common goal, these agents for change have a genuine passion for improving not only their community and culture but the organization as well (Williams, 2023). Though this program I have learned the important of being a positive change agent, the world around us changes constantly, and to be successful in what we do we must be willing to change along with it. Approaching change in a positive way can influence those that we are surrounded by to approach the change in a positive manner as well creating a positive culture. It is this positive culture that will allow the success of the employees and the organization.
Leadership Style
The approach of an Authentic leader is to be aware and empathetic to employees and their needs, focusing on becoming a trusting and ethical leader (White, 2017). In the Servant leadership theory leaders place employees before themselves, their first reaction is to serve the members of the team, placing the priority on the needs of the members of the team (Schwantes, 2015). We learned early in the program about different leadership styles, and I had a difficult time deciding between these two styles, as I see both of their traits in myself and the way that I lead. Serving the members of the team can often build a bond and trust between the leader and the employees, this relationship can promote a positive culture and productivity. Helping team members with their needs to be successful, builds trust and loyalty. I will apply this in my new role as a lead nurse practitioner focusing on building trusting relationships with my team members and leading by example.
Corporate Social Responsibility
A defining characteristic of corporate social responsibility is the ability to function in any market by being able to align individual and collective interests to increase the success of social and environmental goals, to maximize shareholder value, and organizational growth (Beal, 2014). Understanding the importance of aligning the individual interest of the health care organization that I work for with the financial group and stakeholders to both provide quality health care while making a profit and growing is important. This resonates with me as a business owner I feel that I have a social responsibility to the community that I practice in, I promote healthy lifestyles in the community and give back also by donating and volunteering in the community typically at the animal shelter. I will continue to use my success and positive attitude to give back to those I serve, and hopefully influence those around me to give back and promote the community as well.
