An enterprise application is a 3 tier system consisting of a web front end tier, an application server tier and a database tier. Each tier is clustered (i.e. nodes are connected in parallel and independent) for high availability and scalability. The DB nodes have the same data. The number of nodes in each tier, the MTTF and MTTR for each individual node in a tier are given below. Web tier: Number of nodes=2, MTTF of a node=60 days, MTTR of a node = 12 hours App tier: Number of nodes=3, MTTF of a node=30 days, MTTR of a node = 36 hours DB tier: Number of nodes=2, MTTF of a node=30 days, MTTR of a node = 48 hours Please answer the following questions with required set of computation steps: (a) Among the 3 tier clusters, which one has the minimum MTTF? (b) What is the MTTF of the entire 3-tier system given that each tier has to be available for the overall system to work ? Round off to the nearest integer in days. (c) Compute the availability of each node in the application server tier (round off upto 2 decimal places) and thereby compute the availability of the application server cluster (do not apply any round off).
