An independent contractor does not act under the supervision and control of the person who hired

him or her. The contractor is chosen to accomplish a result by his or her own means. Accordingly, the

doctrine of respondent superior does not apply to the torts of an independent contractor. Name (at least 2) situations wherein the person hiring may be liable for the torts of an independent
