An orifice needs to be calibrated to be able to measure the flow rate of liquid acetone. A differential
manometer is connected over the orifice. The manometer fluid has an SG of 1.1. The calibration is
done by connecting a rotameter in series with the manometer. The flow rate of acetone is varied by
changing the setting of an inlet valve. During these different settings, the flow rate in the rotameter
(V) and the height difference of the manometer fluid (h) is recorded (see table below).
a)
For each of the readings in the table above, calculate the pressure drop in Pa across the
orifice.
b)
The flow rate through an orifice is dercribed by the equation below. Verify graphically that this
equation is valid, and calculate the values for K and n.
c)
If the setup is now used on a plant where the difference in height of the monometer fluid is
measured as 23mm, calculate the volume-, mass- and molar flow rate for acetone on the
plant.
