| Analytical Methods Question 2: In many cases the data we want to examine in public, nonprofit, and health care organizations extends beyond categorical measures, and are instead measured as continuous variables (that is, at the interval- or ratio-level). The various types of t-tests allow us methods of examining the differences in means between groups, or between a single group and a prespecified norm or a mean of zero. List the several forms of t-tests, and note what types of situations they are meant to examine. Please include an example of each from your current or prospective sector of work (public, nonprofit, or health care organizations) to support your discussion. Finally, apply your knowledge of t-tests to a sample problem: Imagine that we have selected a sample of 14 consecutive days (all Thursdays) from September, October, November, and December 2015, and measured daily rainfall. We are interested in how this matches up to average daily rainfall on Thursdays in past years. We conduct a one-sample ttest (two-tailed, degrees of freedom = 13, 1% significance level), and the results are listed below in Table 1.2.
