Anh (A) is the supervisor of Bao, Cuong and Dat (B,C and D). At lunch one day, they were all sitting together at began talking.

Anh tells Bao, “Bao, because you have been such a great employee so far this year, I promise to give you a $5000 bonus for your work up until now.” “Thanks, I’ll take it! I have been working super hard!” replied Bao.

Anh then tells Cuong, “Cuong, you have been pretty good too but not as good as Bao so I am not sure if I will give you a bonus.” Cuong replied: “Well, what if I work on Sundays for the next month. Will you give me a bonus then?” “I know you don’t have to work on Sundays, but if you do, then yes, I will definitely give you a $3000 bonus,” Anh responded. Cuong works on Sundays for the next month.

“Dat, you have been a terrible worker. But, if you do 3 things, I will give you a $3000 bonus too,” Anh stated.

“What are they?” asked Dat. Anh responded, “I need you to show up to work on time, dress professionally like everyone else, and do your work on schedule for the next month. This is what is already in your employment contract, but if you do that, I will give you a bonus.”

Dat replied, “Well, OK, I guess I could that. I agree” All during the next month, Dat performed those promises.

Later, Anh refused to give a bonus to any of his employees.
