Anna Bitter, a former employee of Citibank's wealth management group, is struggling to find a new job after Citibank terminated her a few months earlier. Upset at Citibank and running out of options, Anna attempts to access her old employee account at Citibank and, to her surprise, she is able to log in using her old credentials. Anna decides to obtain information on some of her old clients with the hopes of contacting them for potential work as their personal wealth manager. After a few weeks of unsuccessfully trying to get the clients on her side, Anna decides to instead bring the information to her former boss to show how vulnerable the system is and how much information she was able to obtain even though she is no longer an employee. Anna's hope is that her honesty and disclosure of this information will help get her job back. Unbeknownst to Anna, when she accessed her old employee account and obtained the client information, the system became vulnerable and a virus from Anna's home computer was transferred into Citibank's database thereby causing significant damage to the system's operation. Citibank sustained losses in excess of $100,000 as a result of this breach. As soon as she discloses the information to her boss, he immediately contacts the authorities and Anna is arrested.
