Construct your own model of the essential elements and processes involved in the situations. Your model's primary function should be to describe what elements are involved and what processes operate in following interpersonal the specific situations chosen. You may find it useful to define the situation in more specific terms before you begin constructing your model. You do not need to draw a diagram model but rather can follow the example below. Once your have read about the models of communication I want you to select the communication situations and identify the model elements that may arise in that particular context. Example If I am sitting on a bus and not trying to communicate, I will hear external noise from the bus and others talking. I would be a sender of a message through nonverbal channels by not establishing eye contact, maybe reading, listening to music, etc. In this context I may also be trying to identify if there is any feedback from others so that I can nonverbally communicate to them that I am wanting to be alone. Finally, I may try to create as much space (Proxemics) from the next person. This is a sample but I would like you to identify how a sender, receiver, noise, feedback, channel, etc. may surface within the communication situation. I hope this helps. Please note, I am not asking you to identify all elements but enough to show how complex the communication situation can become. You may want to identify 5-8 model elements that may arise in the communication situation. A. Please complete the following for each: communication situations with a separate Interpersonal Communication Model 1. Sitting silently on the bus while trying to avoid talking with the person seated next to you. 2. Talking with someone who speaks a different language (which you don't know and who does not know your language) and comes from a culture very different from your own.
