Fiveparameterswereconsidered.Theywere work,co-workers, compensation, promotion and supervision. The population of the study consisted of 125libraryprofessionalsof15universitiesundertheUniversityGrants CommissioninSriLanka.Allmembersofthepopulationweregiventhe opportunity to participate in the study. A semi-structured questionnaire was used as themain datacollection instrument. Theresponse ratewas 64%. Cronbach'salpha valuesofallvariablesareabove0.6 (work: 0.764, co-workers: 0.864, compensation:0.661,promotion: 0.614and supervision:0.963). Theinstrument usedtomeasureeach variableinthecurrentstudyisreliableandalltheitemsare positivelycorrelatedtooneanother. The meanofjobsatisfactionofallaspects: work; co-workers;compensation; promotionandsupervisionishigherinFemales (0.9200,0.8021,0.6521,0.6667,0.7243)thanmales(0.7277,0.6406,0.5250, 0.3854, -0.0052).Theresultsindicatedthatthereisasignificantdifferenceofjob satisfactionbetweenmaleandfemaleuniversitylibraryprofessionalsonlyinthe "supervision" parameter. The overall job satisfaction of both male and female (3.77) university library professionals is equal. However, equal treatment to both genders willhelptoachievehighersatisfactionlevels.Thefindingsofthestudywillbe helpfulforlibrariansandadministratorstodevelopamotivatedandproductive workforce for organizational success.
