Imagine you have developed an updated kind of text (experimental condition) that you hypothesize will result in more interest and better understanding compared to a control text featuring a typical textbook explanation. You have sampled 223 college undergraduates. The students lled out a prior knowledge test online before they came into the study (10 item multiple-choice test). When they arrived you randomly assigned them to either read the experimental, or the control text. When they had nished reading, you had them write an essay on the topic from memory, and then complete the same test they completed before they arrived (now functioning as a posttest). Afterwards, you had them rate their interest in the text using a 1-7 Likert scale (not interested-very interested).
