Caselet 4.2: Tri-States Bottling Company Brianna Jones was completing her B.S.B.A. in Professional Sales, Jones' goal was to land a fast-track sales position with Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia. Jones sent her rsum directly to Coca-Cola's HR department and was surprised when she received a call from Gene Allen, the sales manager for Tri-States Bottling Company in Richmond, Virginia. After chatting for 10 minutes, Allen asked Jones to visit the facility the following Friday at 10am. for an interview. Jones was very excited about her future and began researching Tri-States and its personnel. Jones arrived at the interview at 9:55 and spent an hour with Allen and his assistant, Diane Chin. Jones felt that both interviews went well. After lunch, Allen asked if she would participate in a ride-along with a current sales rep. to which Jones readily agreed. She was pared with Bill Contento, a five-year veteran, and they quickly arrived at the customer's location. Contento began the sales meeting with the customer and, after about 15 minutes, Jones knew she had a problem. She had consumed several glasses of water during lunch. and she now desperately needed to go to the restroom! Finally, at a pause in the conversation. Brianna said, "Excuse me, Im going to get a Coca-Cola." Both Contento and the buyer looked strangely at her as she hustled out of the office to find a bathroom. To cover her story, she bought a soda and returned to the meeting, After the sales call, Contento and Jones returned to Tri-States. She spoke to Allen briefly, who promised to contact her "early next week" fones drove home feeling positive about the sales opportunity
