2. Watch "How language shapes the way we think" and describe the main points made by the speaker. Using the information in your textbook to discuss whether or not language ability in humans is hard wired in the brain and whether or not language use is a unique human ability. Discuss the pragmatics of language use and the linguistic relativity hypothesis. How does the information in your text relate to the ideas presented in the video? Do you personally believe that language influences our thoughts (instead of our thoughts influencing our language)? Why or why not?
3. Discuss the points made by Deborah Siegel in "Born that way?" What does she mean by "gender binary zones" and "pink/ blue filters"? Explain the differences between sex and gender and describe some common gender stereotypes. How does the information in this video compare with what the textbook says about gender development? Discuss how biology, learning, and stereotypes can influence our views on gender.
4. Watch "The teenage brain explained" and summarize the main points. Describe typical patterns of brain development during the teenage years. How could these neurological changes influence decision making during the teenage years? Using the information in your textbook, discuss adolescent egocentricism, impulsivity, and risk taking behaviors as a function of brain development.
