A steam boiler generates 5000kg/h of superheated steam at 4000kPa and 400C from feedwater at 60C. The calorific value of the fuel used is 44000kJ/kg. If the boiler efficiency is 75%, determine the fuel consumption in kg/h. (10 marks) If the mass of flue gas is 27.4kg/kg of fuel burned and if the flue gas temperature is 310C, determine the percentage of the fuel energy which is carried away by the flue gas. Take ambient air temperature to be 18C. The specific heat capacity of the flue gas =1.04kJ/kgK. (10 marks)
