APPENDIX A: DEBATE TOPICS & INSTRUCTIONS
*Please remember that a completed debate assignment is due each time a module has a discussion/debate board, and that
the assignment is to be submitted prior to participation in the discussion/debate board
**Please remember to write all debate assignments in the time frame listed in the readings!
***All readings are listed in the reading list in the module overview. Outside research is welcome to supplement.
***Finally, please remember that the debate assignments and boards are meant to give you the opportunity to reflect on
what you have learned in the module.
Instructions for the Debates:
By Wednesday at 11.59pm each student is responsible for both
o(1) turning in a debate assignment (see Appendix B Below for instructions) and
o(2) posting in the debate forum. The posting should be in one of the following formats clearly taking a
position (A or B listed below) and explaining why using concepts from class.
A 200 word written post
A 1-2 minute video post
A 1 page PPT (or visual) slide representation of your points
Please note, these debates are meant to be intellectually stimulating and encourage you to challenge both
yourself and your peers. That said, play I encourage you to play devils advocate and think about both
sides of the argument, even if it is not what you personally believe. The best critical thinker can argue for
both sides! This is a chance to work on your critical thinking and communication skills. Grades will in no
way be based on the opinions you express but rather the validity and quality of your argument and
connection to class material. (See Appendix C for a Rubric)
