As a response, the international Slow Food movement boasts 70,000 members in dozens of countries; it is founded on the idea that things should not taste the same everywhere. Slow food grew out of a 1986 protest over the opening of a McDonald's on a popular plaza in Rome; every two years.

(1) What other products might face such a stiff resistance as that to food and act as a restraint to the growth of cultural and, in turn, to product universalism?

(2) Could some product categories be an exception to this, and why? Discuss.
