Frederica M3.4 Leadership Interview Analysis of Marilyn Pat Mason the Director for Yoiko Child Development Center.
Provide a brief introduction to the interview subject: who was the interviewee, and why did you choose them to interview?
I was deeply interested in Marilyn Pat Mason, the Director for Child Development Centers here in Misawa Japan, primarily because her leadership style and accomplishments resonate with the servant leadership path I aspire to tread. Marilyn's dedication to prioritizing the needs of children, families, and her team showcases her commitment to service and empowerment.
Focus on explaining insights you learned from conducting the interview. For example:
Which leadership style do you see that person following?
During my Interview process with Mrs. Pat Mason, I saw a Transformational leader in her. She embodies her vision and believes in it so strongly that she empowers her employes and others to do the same.
Are they aware of the type of leadership they implement?
Yes, my interviewee Mrs. Marilyn Pat Mason is aware of the type of leadership styles she acquires within her as a director.
Who are they on a team? Do they tend to fill thinking, action, or social roles?
Mrs. Mason is on a team, as the director of that team, she cannot do it all by herself without her team players as stated during our interview on 01.26.2024.
Ms. Marilyn tends to fill the thinking, action and or social roles and more for that matter, she recently got promoted as the Director of Yoiko Child Development Center in December of 2023, while in the process of learning her role or job requirement she was also told she'll be the acting Flight chief to oversee all of the centers and also the acting assistant director as well, since that position used to be filled by her. While she takes on all these overwhelming roles, she still manages to be socially active with parents of her child development center, by warmly greeting them every day, and making sure that her staffs are taking care off and have all the tools they need to make their jobs easy as well.
How do their responses help you reflect on your own leadership style?
Her Transformational leadership style gives the ability to reflect on my own leadership style, by understand the why of processes, which will help my Servant leadership style to be able to integrate that why of processes into my style can help me lead better with more understanding.
Were you inspired by them? If so, what could you adopt or practice that would assist you in growing as a leader?
I was greatly inspired by my interviewee Mrs. Mason by all the roles she's playing from my interview with her, to be a newly hired director, acting in the flight chief position, and doing the work of the assistant director as well, it takes patience, time, training, compassion and the love for your job to do the work of three person. What I adopt was her patience and the love she has for her job. What I could or would practice assisting me in growing as a leader would be trying to see the bigger perspective, I'll do this by looking at my day-to-day routines and understanding how they contribute on a larger scale.
Did they give you information on their mistakes as a leader?
Ms. Pat did mention as a leader not to lead with your heart if that's one thing she learned while growing in her current leadership position and to always be about the business.
If so, what behavior might you avoid as a leader? The behavior I out to avoid as a leader is not to get emotionally invested to the point of stressed, inefficient communication, lack of trust, expanded ego, poor delegation abilities and inability to listen to my staff.
Provide a conclusion that summarizes some important takeaways.
To conclude, my interview and some important takeaways I got from Mrs. Marilyn, were invaluable insights into navigating challenges, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that the welfare of those you lead remains paramount. Her experiences and strategies can serve as a beacon, guiding me as I strive to cultivate a leadership approach that truly serves and uplifts others.
Second (2nd) Interview Analysis which needs to be Reviewed and Compared to that of the 1st Interview Analysis.
Second Interview Analysis from Interviewer - Anne Mae Zhang who interviewed Alexis Coletti.
Provide a brief introduction to the interview subject: who was the interviewee, and why did you choose them to interview?
Two years ago, Alexis became president of a women's fitness group called Charge on her campus at Duquesne University. She is an executive outreach coordinator for Duquesne's Liberal Arts Food Pantry. She is also the secretary for the Political Science Honor Society and a treasurer for a figure skating club on campus. She leads about 60 people in total across these activities.
I chose Alexis to interview because of her work ethic and the inspiration she gave me when getting to know each other. She is one of the most achieving and motivating people I have come across in my life. In my observation, I chose the pace, setting, leadership style for Alexis due to the high expectations and self-driven approach, she must do things faster and better.
She described her leadership style as someone who works endlessly to achieve a goal and delegates tasks to others while maintaining an internal work ethic herself.
My leadership style, I would say, would be the democratic style since I prefer to seek the input and views of other people to conclude within a group setting. The example from the module notes democratic leadership.
Such consultation has drawbacks due to the time it takes to be effective, and this can adversely affect the project's climate. Is relatable to my leadership tactics because I notice when I need to get others input in a decision making, it uses a productive time that can be used with action.
This is where Alexis's style has an advantage as most of her endeavors are action based.
Alexis and I have different leadership styles. But we both strive to find the best answers and solutions when there is something that needs to be solved or finished. To be truly honest, meeting Alexis and seeing her successes has inspired me to work harder and become more of a productive person in my own life and leadership opportunities.
She noted during the interview that she likes to be recognized for her efforts that result in good work and are noticed by the people around her. This is close to home, with my aspirations to be recognized for my work as I strive to make a career in health care and nutrition.
The advice that Alexis gave when I asked her what she would tell someone who's just starting is as stated. If there is an opportunity there, it's there because you can handle it. She is a go getter and takes the efficient opportunities that align with her set goals.
Overall, Alexis has provided me with the lessons she has learned, the steps she took to achieve her goals, and the inspiration to keep moving forward. Her take on leadership is effective, especially for students like herself and I as well. Leadership is the fuel for an effective work ethic and proper teamwork. After interviewing Alexis, I was able to understand her mindset and path of action when it came to leadership for herself.
