As management graduates, they will be an integral part of several strategic business decisions. But before they start exploring these aspects of organization and management, it's time to introduce themself to your instructor and peers.

In response to two peers on their growth plans, address the following:

  • Compare your experiences with developing a growth plan. Identify one aspect of their growth plan that you liked.
  • How might you measure success differently than they did? Why?

When envisioning myself at this college, I also thought about what I would like to obtain most out of attending Southern New Hampshire University. After the MBA program, I should develop a strong professional network base, be in a better position for salary advancement and obtain specific knowledge and skillsets to not only succeed but thrive in the modern business world. An area that has always caught my attention, in my line of work is the word "Strategic Planning". It is not only a fancy word but an intimidating one at that. What does this mean? And what does it entail? Would I ever be able to do this with confidence? Now that I am enrolled in this course, Business Strategy, I am hoping that all my questions will be answered, and I can walk away from this course with a proficient knowledge of how to develop a growth plan for my company as I continue to build my managerial portfolio.

As I reflect on the word "plan", I seem to always be in the stage of planning something. Whether it is planning to lose weight, planning to purchase a home, or planning to obtain my master's degree I always seem to be planning something. These 3 items were always on my bucket list and goals that I wanted to succeed in.

  • Losing Weight: When I became serious about losing weight, I got on a scale and saw what my weight was, and came up with a target weight that I wanted to achieve. I changed my diet, began to exercise regularly, and weigh myself daily to track my progress. I exercise when I was tired, upset if the weather was bad, and if the weather was good, in other words, I exercise with no excuses allowed and ultimately reached my target weight and was able to maintain it.
  • Purchasing a Home: First thing I did was obtain my credit score from all three-credit bureaus: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. My scores were an indication that I needed to work on increasing my scores to secure a decent loan to purchase my home. Reviewing my scores and making the necessary corrections to address any outstanding issues to clean up the report. In the end, I was able to purchase my home in a great area at a great price.
  • Obtaining my MBA: Researching different online programs that would align with my hectic schedule. I selected SNHU because it was recognized as one of the nation's top 12 "Most Innovative Colleges for Adult Learners", which offered competency-based degree programs designed specially to meet the needs of adult learners. In addition, it was recently listed as one of the best schools for business administration majors.
