Each statement provides unique perspectives and insights for reviewers. Please pay careful attention to this section of the application, as many departments place strong emphasis on these statements.

Programs commonly have areas of interest associated with their research or academic discipline. A current list is provided above to aid you in completing this section of the application.

Your Statement of Purpose should

demonstrate a passion for and knowledge of your intended plan of study using the language of the academic discipline

describe any professional work experience and relevant internships

describe your research, leadership, and/or publication experience

articulate how a graduate degree will help to achieve your future goals and career aspirations.

The Personal Statement should

*give details on what is unique and distinctive about yourself *provide information on overcoming personal obstacles or hardships (financial, physical, familial or cultural) *if gaps exist within your application (low gpa, missing prerequisites, etc.) please identify and address them to assist in the review of your application.
