ASAP, This is all the imnformation given please answer
(40 pts total) During the 1990 s, the chemical MTBE was added to gasoline sold in some regions
of the U.S. Unfortunately, this chemical began to show up in groundwater due to leaky
underground storage tanks.
As an environmental engineer, you are studying various processes for "cleaning up"
contaminated groundwater that contains MTBE.
One possible process is air stripping, in which the contaminated water is fed as an input stream to
the top of a stripping column. Pure dry air is a second input stream, at the bottom of the column.
Two output streams leave the stripping column. A liquid stream containing nearly pure water
with essentially zero MTBE and no dissolved air leaves at the bottom. A gas stream containing
air, water vapor, and MTBE vapor leaves at the top of the column.
Composition data for the problem:
Contaminated water: 98.3 mass % water, 1.7 mass % MTBE
Output gas stream: 1.1 mass % water vapor, 50.6 mass % MTBE, 48.3 mass % air
Both the dry air input and the water output are pure.
Basis: Flow rate of pure dry air into the column is exactly 100kgh.
(a)(10) Draw and label a flowchart for the process
(c)(15) Determine the ratio of the mass flow rate of the contaminated water stream to the mass flow rate of the dry air stream.
(d)(5) Determine the average molecular weight of the output gas stream. Make sure to use a method or equation which is correct when mass fractions or mass percents are used.
(Water=18, Air=29, MTBE=88)
