Dataset is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Current mean = (1*2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)/9 = 4.9

Let's say, I add -10 (which is obviously the extreme low value) in the data set,

I will have, -10,1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 then,

(Note: we will have 10 data points this time).

Mean = (-10+1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)/10 = 3.5

You can see, mean decreased.

I understand everything except one thing. why is Current mean = (1*2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)/9 = 4.9

and not (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)/9 = 5
