Known to have a primary malignancy of thestomach (body) that was originally resected 6 months earlier; thepatient was still receiving chemotherapy for the gastricmalignancy. Outpatient testing showed evidence of minor ascites andright ureteral metastasis causing obstruction, resulting in righthydronephrosis. The patient was admitted for treatment of thehydronephrosis. The patient was taken to the radiation departmentwhere an interventional radiologist percutaneously inserted anephrostomy tube directly into a right kidney for drainage. Apercutaneous paracentesis was also performed for diagnosticpurposes. Cytology examination of the peritoneal fluid showedevidence of peritoneal metastasis and malignant ascites. Thepatient did not want further aggressive therapy and was dischargedhome to consider using hospice services.
