Assignment 2

Dear students you are required to do this assignment individually. Please solve these two questions.

Question Number 1

We have studied about classes of internet addresses (IPv4) in our class. In this context you were required to analyze the addressing schemes in their binary representation. Binary representation is the domain in which you will be better able to understand these concepts. Once you have developed the understanding only then you will be able to analyze the logic of choosing these boundaries.

Please solve these questions.

  1. What are the boundaries of Class A IPv4 addresses?
    1. Upper bound in Binary?
    2. Lower bound in Binary?
    3. Upper bound in Decimal?
    4. Lower bound in Decimal?
    5. How many total number of unique IP Addresses can we have in this class?
  2. What are the boundaries of Class B IPv4 addresses?
    1. Upper bound in Binary?
    2. Lower bound in Binary?
    3. Upper bound in Decimal?
    4. Lower bound in Decimal?
    5. How many total number of unique IP Addresses can we have in this class?
  3. What are the boundaries of Class C IPv4 addresses?
    1. Upper bound in Binary?
    2. Lower bound in Binary?
    3. Upper bound in Decimal?
    4. Lower bound in Decimal?
    5. How many total number of unique IP Addresses can we have in this class?
  4. What are the boundaries of Class D IPv4 addresses?
    1. Upper bound in Binary?
    2. Lower bound in Binary?
    3. Upper bound in Decimal?
    4. Lower bound in Decimal?
    5. How many total number of unique IP Addresses can we have in this class?

Question Number 2

We have also studied that there are a few classes of Private IP addresses that will not be routed to the public internet. Following is the list classes of those private IP addresses in IPv4.

  1. Class A: 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
  2. Class B: 1716.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
  3. Class C: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

You are required to analyze these classes and let us know the logic of the choice of each of the upper and lower bound of these classes. You can better understand it, if you convert them in Binary and then try to reason about the choice.

  1. Reason of the choice for Class A
  2. Reason of the choice for Class B
  3. Reason of the choice for Class C
