Now you will use the information from the videos to identify where you had writer-based prose and then revise it using strategies introduced in the videos to make it read-based. Directions This activity has two parts. You will need to return to what you submitted for the "Forced Writing Activity" earlier in this module to complete these two steps. You should complete Steps 1 and 2 in the same document and submit it here when you are done. Step 1: Imagine a Reader Reread what you wrote for "Forced Writing Activity" in response to the prompt: What is good writing? Think about how what you said might prevent you from communicating effectively with a reader. Based on the videos we watched, we know that to transform Writer-Based Prose into Reader-Based Prose, the first thing we need is to have an idea of the audience we want to communicate with. Imagine a new reader for a paragraph about good writing, such as a classmate in your writing class. In a couple of specific sentences, describe the audience you selected and what they might hope to find out from your text. Then move on to Step 2. Step 2: Revise Based on Your Audience (Reader-Based Writing) Using what you wrote for your "Forced Writing Activity" and the imagined audience you selected in Step 1, rewrite your text to be reader-based. Your revision should follow the principles of Reader-Based Prose outlined in the videos. This time, instead of trying to include everything you can think of, you're trying to communicate specific, useful information to someone else. As you do this activity, remember you don't need to include everything you wrote in the original activity because some of it may not be relevant based on your imagined reader. In other cases, you will need to explain more about what you meant to say. When you are done with steps 1 and 2, submit what you wrote here.
