Assignment #2: Purchasing Ethics
For each of the three (3) scenarios below; answer the questions associated to them.
Reference information reviewed in lesson including the PowerPoint Slides, Supply Chain Canada Code of
Ethics for Professionals and lecture. The assignment is to be submitted via Blackboard Learn no later

Scenario 1
Eric Janz was just arriving back from lunch when his office phone rang. It was his wife, Laurie, calling from
home. Laurie told Eric that Fed Ex had just delivered a package addressed to her. The package contained a
beautiful painting, now sitting over the fireplace. In fact, Laurie said, "the painting looks absolutely
beautiful on our living room fireplace." Thinking the painting was from a family member, Eric asked who
sent the present. She said she did not recognize the name-the painting was from Mr. Mitch McEnroe.
Eric immediately told Laurie that she had to repack the painting because it was from a supplier who had
been trying to win business from Eric's company. They definitely could not accept the painting. Laurie was
very upset and responded that the painting was perfect for the room and, besides, the painting came to
their home, not to Eric's office. Because of Laurie's attachment to the painting, Eric was unsure about what
to do.
QUESTIONS: (Each question is worth 5 marks)
What should Eric do about the painting?
What does the Supply Chain Canada Code of Ethics say about accepting supplier favours and gifts?
How does it apply or not apply to this scenario?
Why do you think the supplier sent the painting to Bryan's home and addressed it to his wife?
Does the mere act of sending the painting to Eric mean that Mr. McEnroe is an unethical salesperson?
