The company has offices in 6 different locations across Australasia, Europe and Africa. The context is one of your staff members has requested a meeting to discuss an issue that has arisen in your business. The staff member, Josie, has worked in your Hong Kong & Botswana offices for the past 4 years but was transferred to your Melbourne office 4 weeks ago. The details are Josie is highly qualified and experienced. Josie is full of creative ideas, has won several awards and is passionate about the industry. This is Josie's first time working and living in Australia. Josie is still familiarising themselves with the local business customs and organisational culture. As such, Josie currently feels excluded and is holding back in the workplace. Josie has called a meeting with you due to several concerns. Josie feels they are not reaching their potential in your office. Josie has not been sharing ideas, is holding back from brainstorming sessions and discussions and is not offering solutions (fearing their ideas will be dismissed, rejected or mocked by the team). Josie has also noted their colleagues often catch up for dinners outside of work or go for coffee runs during work hours. Josie has not been invited to these. Since arriving to your office 4 weeks ago, Josie has refrained from approaching colleagues to seek their advice about how to act and collaborate with others. Josie is also feeling uncertain about attending social events with the team. Your tasks: e Step 1: Film a short video (5 mins +/- 10%) that simulates the meeting and discussion you plan to have with Josie that addresses the following objectives: 1. Josie feels they are not maximising their productivity, are not contributing to tasks and that outputs for your organisation could be improved. Josie has been hesitant in joining in conversations with other co-workers Iand now prefers working independently. You should provide specific, constructive, and developmental feedback and strategies for Josie. It is important that your feedback and strategies are evidence-based, link to theory and show insight into both Josie and your office culture. It is important that Josie agrees with your recommendations (link to communication and persuasion, interpersonal skills and diversity). 2. Josie is having difficulty in fitting in the team with other coworkers. losie is beginning to feel quite isolated in Melbourne. Josie feels they don't have a social life and that their life lacks work-life balance. Josie is not sure if they should organise a social event or wait to be invited by coworkers.
