Usually, when change happens, I am open to the unexpected as well. I tend to be available when it comes to moving to a new location are changing to a new job. My feelings are a mix between being anxious and excited which can be overwhelming, but about 4 years ago, my emotions and feelings were volatile. For example, about 3 years ago, my husband decided to move from Maryland back to North Carolina. My husband agreed that he would move from North Carolina to Maryland, where I lived when we got married, and since I had a great paying job with great benefits and opportunities. Though my husband and I never decided on the length of time we would stay in Maryland, I never imagined leaving Maryland so soon. After much discussion and prayer, I finally agreed after 6 months to move to North Carolina with my husband to be closer to his only sister. The steps I had to take in preparing to move were to sit down and come up with a plan on a set date to move to North Carolina. Then I had to decide where I would like to work in the city we were going to move to and when I would apply so that I did not get calls for interviews before our set date. I also had to figure out when I would resign from my current position that I truly loved and enjoyed. According to MindTools, individuals handle change in one of two ways, controlling it or escaping it. Every day that passed, my emotions seemed very unstable, and I wanted to run from the change. I cried daily, and at times, I was angry or upset with my husband for wanting to move from Maryland. As the time moved closer to the move, I was not handling this upcoming change to moving away from a place that I truly loved and enjoyed. Mixed emotions came and went, but my husband never deterred from wanting to stay no matter how I felt emotionally. After I resigned from my past position, I sat down with my manager and discussed some possible jobs that I would apply for. I did some extensive research on the healthcare organizations in North Carolina and researched the open positions that I felt would be an excellent opportunity. In Essential Elements When Framing Organizational Change, Bill Hogg stated that you must get others involved to frame change. Once I narrowed down my search and looked more in-depth into the job openings that I would apply for, I also reached out to friends and family who worked for the organizations in the area we would move to. As I applied for the specific positions, I started reaching out to recruiting agencies in the area to shed light on the opportunities available. It seemed like the more that I researched and spoke with friends and recruiters, moving to North Carolina was not a bad idea after all.
