Assignment Description This assignment has parts. Part A motivates students to horn their problembased learning and research skill as applied to communications systems, while Part B develops skills in system design and analysis, computer programming and system simulation. Teamwork skill is also developed as student work in groups of to students. PART A Marks Purpose of the Project: The purpose of this assignment is to motivate students to understand the principles and importance of multiuser resource allocation techniques employed in the uplinks of modern digital communication networks using wireless medium for information transmission. Students also develop skills in information gathering and technical documentation. In summary, students are expected to develop multiple skills via this project, including: a Develop capabilities in requirements of realworld case study. b Ability to reformulate illformulated questions in a solvable form. c Develop skills to critically review, consolidate, analyze, synthesis knowledge of overall system. d Ability to understand and apply technical skills to real information technology applications. e Prove the ability to apply content learned during their studies to solve practically relevant problems. f Develop research and lifelong learning skills. g Acquisition of teamwork and interpersonal communication skills. h Develop the skill to write a professionally looking technical reports. Project Requirements and Scope Digital communication networks are usually accessed and used by multiple users simultaneously. As the resources are finite and cannot serve all users seeking access to them at a given time, multiuser schemes are used for resource management. There are different competing resource allocation schemes in the uplink ie from user to the network which are generally called multiple access or multiuser schemes MUSs Every mobile communication system employs MUSs. Often, there are competing technologies. Mobile communications technologies have been evolving, beginning from the First Generation G through G ie LTE and the current G The next generation of mobile technology, referred to as G is under research. There are several proposals with respect to the MUS to be adopted. The purpose of this assignment is to motivate students to understand the principles and importance of multiuser resource allocation techniques employed in the uplink of modern digital communication networks using wireless medium for information transmission. In particular, students are expected to research and fifind
the multiple access schemes that have been proposed for the uplink of G systems, and then select one of them for an indepth analysis and synthesis. Students also develop skills in information gathering and technical documentation. In doing so the student shall acquire skills to understand the realworld requirements, critically review the existing techniques and write a technical report based on his or her investigation. This means, each group is expected to write a critical review and analysis of one of the MUSs that have been proposed to be used in the G uplink. The submission should cover at least: a A literature review on current practices on uplink resource allocation in digital mobile communication networks Hint: Cite a minimum two peerreviewed papers closely relating to the topicb Understanding and analysis of the requirements for the design and selection of the uplink MUSs used in modern mobile wireless digital communication systems. c Write an indepth technical report on requirements, review, and analysis of one of the multiple access scheme that have been proposed to be used in the uplink of Gd Demonstration of prefect use of IEEE intext citation and referencing.
