Assignment: Introduction to Quantitative Analysis In this weeks Discussion, you determined the benefits of visually displaying your data. You also learned that different types of data require different visual displays to adequately tell the story of the phenomena. Although the Discussion was difficult, what is even more difficult and challenging will be deciding on how best to display the data for presentation purposes. As you move further along in your dissertation or doctoral study, you will find that displaying data will be critical component in presenting a robust and clear capstone project. This Introduction to Quantitative Analysis Assignment is composed of three different parts. You will complete each part in Weeks 2, 3, and 4. You will submit the entire Assignment in Week 4. For this week, you will explore how to visually display data for optimal use. Part 1: Displaying the Data To prepare for this Part 1 of the Assignment: Review this weeks Learning Resources and consider visual displays of data as well as displaying data in presentations. Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset (whichever you choose) found in this weeks Learning Resources. From the dataset you chose, choose one categorical and one metric variable and perform the appropriate visual display for each variable. Once you visually display each variable, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document. For this Part 1 Assignment: Write a 2- to 3-page analysis of your results and include a copy and paste of the appropriate visual display of the data into your document. Use appropriate APA format. Refer to the APA manual for appropriate citation. No Assignment submission for this week. By Day 7 of Week 4 Submit your Parts 1, 2, and 3 of this Introduction to Quantitative Analysis Assignment. Assignment: Introduction to Quantitative Analysis In Part 2 of this Assignment, you will differentiate between the proper use of summary statistics for categorical and metric level data. In this exercise, you will explore what output is provided for each of these variables and provide some meaning from these statistics for your reader. The ability to place the statistics into a context that your reader understands and can make sense of is a highly desirable skill. For this Part 2 of your Introduction to Quantitative Analysis Assignment, you will examine the same two variables you used from Part 1 of your Assignment and perform the appropriate descriptive analysis of the data given. Part 2: Descriptive Analysis To prepare for this Part 2 of your Assignment: Review this weeks Learning Resources and the Central Tendency and Variability media program. Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset from your Part 1 of your Assignment in Week 2. Choose the same two variables you chose from your Part 1 Assignment and perform the appropriate descriptive analysis of the data. Once you perform your descriptive analysis, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document. For this Part 2 Assignment: Write a 2- to 3-page analysis of your descriptive analysis results and include a copy and paste your output from your analysis into your final document. Use appropriate APA format, citations and referencing. Refer to the APA manual for appropriate citation. No Assignment submission for this week. By Day 7 of Week 4 Submit your Parts 1, 2, and 3 of this Assignment. Assignment: Introduction to Quantitative Analysis In Part 1, you displayed data based on a categorical variable and metric variable from a specific dataset. In Part 2, you used the same variables as in Part 1 to perform a descriptive analysis of the data. For this Part 3 of your Assignment, you will calculate a confidence interval in SPSS for one of the variables from your Parts 1 and 2. Part 3: Confidence Intervals To prepare for this Assignment: Review the Learning Resources related to probability, sampling distributions, and confidence intervals. Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset (whichever you chose) from Week 2. Choose an appropriate variable from Parts 1 and 2 of this Assignment and calculate a confidence interval in SPSS. Once you perform your confidence interval, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document. For this Part 3 Assignment: Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your results and include a copy and paste of the appropriate visual display of the data into your document. Use appropriate APA format. Refer to the APA manual for appropriate citation. Then, for your Final Assignment Submission of Parts 1, 2, and 3: Based on the results of your data in Parts 1, 2, and 3 of this Assignment, provide a brief explanation of what the implications for social change might be. Use appropriate APA format. Refer to the APA manual for appropriate citation. By Day 7 Submit Parts 1, 2, and 3 of your Introduction to Quantitative Analysis Assignment.
