On a hot Sunday while at a retreat who specific aim was to craft client retention strategies confusion continued to pile. The officials highlighted that the company had been experiencing a plethora of challenges and client retention was one amongst the many challenges which confronted the retail company. After going through the company performance statistics, it dawned upon all of them that everything was going wrong and if the situation was to perpetuate it was just a matter of time before the company closed. I personally blame our systems for this performance, NO NONO the other retorted, l blame the economy. The issue at hand was diabolical such that despair was at sigh on the faces of the executives. They had to put down their heads together and come up with a strategic plan which could rescue the supermarket. In a turn of events as the retreat was underway, news filtered through that the company headquarters had caught fire as well as one of the supermarkets within the precinct of the supermarket.

The company executives were stunned and started fighting over which issue to focus on, the issue of the fire or the poor performance of the company which there were initially inferring about. In a flash of a second, phone calls started filtering through with every executive hearing another version of what may have caused the fire. In another call it was reported that an electric fault had been the cause, in another version another caller told another executive that the fire had been started deliberately by an employee wanting to destroy some old files. Within minutes the executives who were seven in total had different versions of what had taken place and were now fighting over the best method to respond to the fire that had taken place.

The management decided to leave the retreat and go back to the headquarters and see for themselves the issue of fire which was ravaging the headquarters. Thedecision to go and attend the fire incident was collective and not unanimous. The management upon reaching the headquarters were advised that the fire brigade had swiftly moved in and controlled the fire hence the damage incurred was at its minimum. The management team was infuriated and started blaming each other why they had left the retreat centre where they were formulation strategies to enhance company performance which was dwindling. There started questioning each other why they had made a crazy idea to even come to see the fire.

1.Discuss the manner in which the management was solving problems at its disposal giving particular reference to the process of problem solving and decision making. Your response should address the question which this group of management started asking themselves why they had even come to see the fire applying the basics of management as outlined in your course outline topic One (30 Marks)

2.The issue of the dwindling performance was a cause of concern to the management and surely, they wanted it to be resolved. Management appeared split on what to diagnosis with some executives saying it was within their control and others signalling that this performance was being necessitated by evils outside their control. Critique this statement through writing a memo on what needs to be done (30 marks)
