ASSIGNMENT: Read the paper by Dan Lavry ("The Optimal Sample Rate for Quality Audio") linked in the Module 3 Basic Digital Audio Concepts folder. Do some research online into the arguments about analog vs digital audio quality. Find at least three different sources by different authors, discussing digital audio quality. What sorts of arguments can you find about digital audio quality, compared to analog audio quality? The most important part of this written assignment is to use the knowledge you have gained from the online reading in this course to assess the value of these various arguments. Many of the articles online on this issue suffer from a lack of understanding. Approach the claims of the various authors you discover critically, and judge their writing by the scientific principles of digital audio that you have studied. If necessary, do some more research into their specific claims, and see if you think they hold water Explain why or why not, in detail VERY IMPORTANT as you research these issues make sure to separate claims about digital audio from those about perceptually coded digital audio (e.g. mp3 or AAC files). These are two different sorts of things, and discussion of mp3 or other compressed files does not belong in your answer Aim for about 400-800 words in your answer and do your best to strike a balance between observations from your own experience and the knowledge you've gained from the readings online.
