Assignment

The company you work for, Company XYZ, has been selected to quickly develop a website for a healthcare corporation. The healthcare corporation needs its customers to be able to input and reference confidential information. This is a top-secret project, as this will definitely give your company a competitive advantage. The website needs to be in place in less than three months. As the project manager, you are calling a meeting to identify the risks of this project. You are unclear about the requirements at this point, and you aren't sure you have enough developers on the team. You have worked with some of the developers before, but several other developers are brand new.

Use the "Week 3 Risk Assessment" spreadsheet provided to complete each of the following tasks.

  1. Identify five potential risks that could impact the website development. List risks that may impact the budget, timeline, solution, privacy, security, scope, or resources. For example:

Risk 1: Unclear understanding of customer requirements

Risk 2: Website information not secure

  1. Categorize each risk you have identified using the descriptive method. Each risk should fall into one of the following categories: solution, timeline, budget, privacy, security, resources, or scope. NOTE: Refer to Agile Project Management - Chapter 5, Pages 82-84 for more information.
  2. Categorize the impact of each risk using the following scale: Minimal, nominal, moderate, high, or extreme. NOTE: Refer to Agile Project Management - Chapter 5, Pages 82-84 for more information.
  3. Determine the impact value for each risk. Note that impact value ranges for each category are provided in the spreadsheet.
  4. Determine the likelihood (probability) for each risk using the following scale: Quite unlikely, unlikely, may occur, likely to occur, or very likely to occur. NOTE: Refer to Agile Project Management - Chapter 5, Page 87 for more information.
  5. Determine the probability value for each risk. Note that probability value ranges for each category are provided in the spreadsheet.
  6. Calculate the risk value for each risk. Risk value = Impact x Probability. NOTE: Refer to Agile Project Management - Chapter 5, Page 88 for more information.
  7. Categorize risks based on risk value using the following scale: minimal, moderate, serious, or critical. NOTE: Refer to Agile Project Management - Chapter 5, Page 88 for more information.
  8. Determine the review frequency for each risk based on its risk value category. Note that review frequencies are provided in the spreadsheet.
