Assignment: You are going to map three claims based on Plato's Allegory of the Cave. For each claim, you must present five reasons to support it. As well, you must present a counter argument with at least three reasons to support that. Use symbols and arrows as shown in the PowerPoint to map. Each claim will be worth 10 marks. The grade will reflect the quality of the claim, the reasons to the support it, the counterclaim and the reasons to support that. Please be consistent with all of your claims. Meaning, use the same format to map them. Guide to make claims and reasons USE THIS GUIDE TO ANSWER ABOVE Claims and Reasons We will be looking at how to analyze claims and reasons. When a claim is made, it must be supported by reasons. If someone were to claim that the moon landings were faked, the first thing we would want to know is what their reasons are for thinking this. One could look at claims as conclusions and reasons as premises. If someone concluded that the moon landings were faked, they would have to provide the premises that led them to that conclusion. We've looked at arguments which contain two or more premises followed by a conclusion. This is the basic structure of an argument. Claims and reasons are much the same. pare to stay in Protected View. Analyzing an argument is different from evaluating an argument. When we analyze an argument, we are attempting to determine what is being said. We shouldn't try to determine whether the argument is sound or unsound. Determining the quality falls into evaluation.
