Assume that you are the HIM director at a University State Hospital. The hospital's mission is to be a center of excellence for cancer care. As a result, the hospital has a cancer registry. The current layout consists of the HIM department, the cancer registry, the volunteer department and the medical library.

In an effort to improve service to the physicians, the facility would like to use the space occupied by the volunteer department and convert it to a physician lounge and relocate the cancer registry.

From the common physicians' lounge, the physicians will be able to gain ready access to the library, incomplete patient records and the cancer registry. The lounge would be a work area for the physicians to use library materials, to complete records and to use cancer registry materials. Two, networked computer stations would be placed in the lounge. From these computers, the physicians could access the hospital information system, the library/cancer registry databases and the Internet. Three dictation booths will be provided.

The volunteer department agreed to switch locations and move to a smaller space. In order to accomplish the project, the areas need renovation, cable must be strung from the network servers and a partition must be constructed to divide the current volunteer space between the physician lounge and the cancer registry. A hole must be cut through the wall into the HIM department to build a service counter. Some new doors will be needed as well.

The following price quotes have been obtained for the project:
