Assume that you have received notice that you are being interviewed for that job. You now have to prepare for the upcoming interview. Part of your preparation is to plan for how you will respond to questions asked to you, using the knowledge and information that you have been gathering in the early stages of your career preparation strategy.

You are at a distinct advantage as the employer is providing the following eight questions in advance of the interview that you will be asked:

1. Why do you think you are the best candidate for this job?

2. Tell me about yourself?

3. What is your greatest weakness/strengths?

4. Describe an experience when you dealt successfully with an angry customer or co-worker?

5. What is your long-term career plan and how does it relate to the position for which you are being interviewed?

6.) Given the option, would you prefer to work on projects alone or as part of a team? Why?

7.) You are being interviewed for this job. Why do you want to leave your current job?

8.) What questions do you have of us?

TASKS

  1. Your task for Assignment# 5 is to prepare for your interview by completing a comprehensive analysis of each of the above interview questions, using the following analytic format:
  2. You have learned that there are different "types" of questions used by employers. For example we learned about stress and situational questions as well as several other types.  Identify the "type of question for each of the eight questions presented to you and give a rationale for your choice. Explain why an employer would use this particular type of question in an interview? What is an employer looking for as a response to this question?
  3. Describe what elements of your knowledge, abilities and experience you will use to prepare your response for each question?  Identity the traps within each question that you will take into consideration when preparing your response.
  4. Provide your response to each question and explain your rationale for your response. Make sure your response is presented as a statement i.e." I will respond"---and then give your response. Be careful not to give a hypothetical response such as "I would probably say something like...".
  5. Predict what questions an employer may ask you in reaction to your response? What would your response be to the employer's subsequent question?
  6. Provide a summary/conclusion piece outlining the learning points that you are taking away from the assignment.

There are 8 questions in this interview and your assignment input should be comprehensive for each question. This is an analytical assignment designed for you to fully prepare for an interview. These questions have been chosen because they are so widely used on interviews, regardless of the job for which you are being interviewed.
