Assume you are a researcher interested in learning more about what college students like to do while on vacation. You have asked a sample of 55 college students to each list five activities they would want to do while vacationing on an island in the Carribean.

Your task is to conduct a content analysis on the data provided in the accompanying document by coding the activities on various dimensions and looking for themes. You will then write a short report ( a page minimum, 1 page maximum, double spaced with a cover page) summarizing your findings. Use the questions and prompts below to help guide you in this assignment.

1. First, read through all of the responses and make notes about any commonalities you notice. For example, are the activities physically active or sedentary? Are they group activities or solo? Are they organized activities? Are they unique to the island? Do not limit yourself to these questions. These are just examples to get the wheels turning! Feel free to use any other themes you are able to identify.

2. Now that you have a feel for the data, what question to do you think you might be able to answer? (Ex: Are they organized activities or are they unique to the island? Are they grouped versus solo activities? Active versus sedentary? Anything else that you can come up with is also perfectly fine..)

3. Using your question as a guide, develop a coding scheme to categorize the responses. Make sure you have objective ways to determine which category each item will fall under.

4. Apply your coding scheme to the data. In other words, go ahead and categorize each of the responses according to the categories you have selected.

5. Now that your data are organized and coded, what conclusions can you make?

6. Write up a short summary explaining your research question, how you coded your data, and the conclusions you made. This summary should be double spaced (Times New Roman, 12 point font), and should be between - 1 page in length. Include a cover page so all that is on page 2 is your title and your write-up. (APA format preferred.) WHAT DO I NEED TO SUBMIT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT?

To complete this assignment, you should submit your coded data (neatly organized) as well as your write-up with cover page. You may either include both of these in a single file or submit two separate files. I typically find Excel the most useful program to help organize data, but you are free to use any method that allows you to complete this assignment effectively and neatly.
