Guidelines for Finding a Solution Essay Description At its core, the Finding a Solution Essay asks you to identify a problem/challenge and then identify a solution for the problem. This essay will take the form of a memo, which means it has to be addressed to someone specific. Find the name of one of the senators, representatives, mayors, or other entity (school board, board of trustees, housing authority, a union, a bank, etc.) that is appropriate for the problem that you are identifying and who could act or strongly influence the actions outlined in your solution; this means that you will have to name a specific person and his/her/their title to address this memo. The challenge that you will be looking at must be specifically related to a Black Immigrant population in the United States. Although no solution is perfect, you want to come up with a specific solution and attach the solution with a specific organization, group, or initiative. Structure This essay will have four sections: the address section, the challenge/problem, the solution, and a conclusion. The address sectionwill replace the regular MLA forma and will consist of To, From, Subject, and Date. The challenge sectionwill tell in one paragraph what the specific problem is and why it is a problem, what Black Immigrant population is affected (or if it is all Black Immigrants), where the affected population resides (city/state/area), and will also refer to a source that we have used this quarter (specifically something that gives specific data or analysis about a population). Whatever data or analysis (including a statement) that you use, should support or show why the challenge that is being highlighted is problematic for that community. Think of something that hinders a specific population from achieving their goals in this country. Go back to Module 2 to look at why people immigrate as well as Countries - Amnesty International so that you can look at specific countries and the repression that causes people to flee and become refugees and asylum seekers to the United States. Add whatever else you feel is important for the addressee to understand about the problem itself regarding the adjustment of that Black Immigrant population to life in the area.Tell the addressee why he/she/they should pay attention to this problem. The solution sectionwill be two paragraphs in length. This section will also need to utilize a source from this quarter and while you can use more information from the source in the challenge section, you need to add another for the solution section. The first paragraph in this section should tell what the solution is, who will be needed to implement it, what resources will be necessary, if there is a specific location where the solution might take place (a school, a park, online, a community center, city hall, etc. and be sure to put a specific name [proper name] to it). Explain why this specific solution, these specific participants, these specific resources, and why the specific location. The
second paragraph in this section should tell what first steps are necessary in order for the solution to be successful, the names of specific people who should be called in (remember you need to also include people from that community - look at business owners or well known people in the area from that community), tell one or two things that the solution can or will accomplish even if the larger goal is not reached for everyone, and finally tell why the solution is the best one to implement at this time. The conclusion sectionshould tell what makes you interested in the challenge itself as well as the solution, what you think the response of the highlighted community will be, what long term affects the solution will have on the community, what benefits might come out of this solution for the overall geographic community including those not a part of that Black Immigrant community. Drafting You might be wondering where to start with this assignment. Look to a few places: Module 8 What's the Problem Assignment [you can actually base this assignment on what you wrote there], an article or source that interested you this quarter, conversations with classmates in the Discussion Boards, your Community Profile Assignment (you might want to look at that community again and highlight a challenge they have); likewise, consider these topics: English language classes for Eritrean refugees, business loan approvals for Haitian communities in Seattle, mental health support groups for Somalian adults, LGBTQ health services or support for Ugandan immigrants, need for an African food store in a particular neighborhood, etc. Other Places that Might Give You Ideas: Immigrant Guide | Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/immigrantguideusa/

Challenge of Housing Insecurity among Congolese Immigrants in Tacoma, Washington
Introduction:Dear Shanetta Smith, as the Chair of Tacoma Housing Authority, I am writing this memo to highlight a significant problem faced by Congolese immigrants in Tacoma, Washington. According to the 2019 American Community Survey (ACS), 65% of Congolese in Tacoma earn less than $35,000 per year, which results in many of them being unable to afford decent housing. Congolese immigrants experience significant housing insecurity in Tacoma, which negatively affects their social and economic well-being. Therefore, it is vital to implement specific solutions to address the housing insecurity issue for the Congolese community.
Challenge: Tacoma's Congolese community struggles with housing insecurity due to several factors, including limited access to affordable housing, language barriers, and discrimination. Many Congolese immigrants earn low wages, which makes it challenging to afford housing in Tacoma's competitive rental market. The language barrier exacerbates the problem because Congolese immigrants may not be aware of the resources available to them. Furthermore, discrimination based on race, language, and national origin perpetuates a cycle of housing insecurity.
Solution: A partnership between Tacoma Housing Authority and local non-profit organization, Tacoma Community House, could mitigate the housing insecurity challenge faced by Congolese immigrants in Tacoma. The initiative would involve providing affordable housing to Congolese immigrants, which will be subsidized by the Tacoma Housing Authority. Additionally, Tacoma Community House would offer financial and housing counseling services to the Congolese immigrants. This program will ensure that Congolese immigrants receive the support and resources necessary to access affordable housing, and they will not have to navigate the complex rental market independently.
Firstly, to ensure the success of the initiative, Tacoma Housing Authority and Tacoma Community House would need to collaborate with the Congolese community leaders to creat awareness of the program. The Congolese community leaders will be essential in creating trust and disseminating information about the program to their respective communities. Secondly, specific locations in Tacoma, such as the Hilltop, could serve as a pilot project for the program. It is crucial to have a physical location where Tacoma Community House can provide in-person counseling and support to Congolese immigrants. Lastly, the initiative would require support from various local businesses and organizations to ensure its sustainability.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the Congolese immigrant community in Tacoma experiences significant housing insecurity, which negatively impacts their social and economic well-being. Therefore, it is vital to create specific solutions to address the issue. A partnership between Tacoma Housing Authority and Tacoma Community House could mitigate the housing insecurity challenge faced by Congolese immigrants in Tacoma by providing affordable housing and counseling services. It is my hope that this initiative will provide a sustainable solution to the housing insecurity problem for Congolese immigrants in Tacoma, Washington.
