Austin Brenner moved to Barrie from New Brunswick. He moved because of a job opportunity that arose. He was hesitant to sign a lease agreement for a year because he wasn't sure if the job was going to pan out. The job ended up exceeding his expectations. He was even promoted after his first month of employment. Austin fell in love with Barrie and really began to settle into his new residence. His plans now were to stay at the residence for at least a couple of years. This would allow him to save enough money to buy his own house. Unfortunately, his bubble was soon to burst. On July 15 th , he approached the landlord to tell him that he would like to sign another lease for the duration of at least one more year. He was taken aback when the landlord said he would have to move out at the end of the lease. 

The landlord told him that new additions to the area, such as GO Trains, malls and schools caused a spike in rent in that area. The landlord said he would be able to rent the unit for an additional $600 per month. The tenant researched his rights and discovered that he had security of tenure and did not have to move out at the end of the lease. He confronted the landlord and told him of his findings. On July 24 th , he was served an N12. The N12 stated the landlord's parents were moving into the apartment on October 1, 2023 and he would have to move out by September 30, 2023. The tenant is aware that the landlord's parents own a house in Ottawa and have no intention of moving in. As well, they live in Florida for 6 months of the year. He is seeking the assistance of a paralegal because he would like to challenge the good faith of the Notice of Eviction.
