In 2017, she was charged with the murder of her husband. The case attracted significant publicity and severely damaged Sarah's reputation, but after a lengthy trial, she was found not guilty of the crime. Sarah wants to change public perception of her case and repair her image and reputation. Sarah contacts Brittany, who is the secretary to Alex. Alex is an investigative reporter from the nightly television show 90 Minutes. Over the phone, Sarah and Brittany discuss the possibility of Sarah being interviewed in a paid television broadcast. During the conversation, Brittany tells Sarah, "We may even be able to mention and promote your upcoming book called "Not Guilty", possibly around the 59-minute mark." Sarah replies, "That could be good." Brittany then arranges for Sarah and Alex to meet, to discuss the matter further. Sarah explains to Alex that the Court case resulted in a lot of negative publicity towards her, which severely damaged her image and reputation. She says that her main concern is the kind of message the interview would portray to viewers, as she wants the interview to help repair her image and reputation. Alex assures Sarah that: "You will have your chance to give your story. Nothing in the interview will be edited" and, \"You will be emailed a document containing all of the interview questions, 3 days prior to the interview being recorded.' Alex also offers Sarah an additional $15,000 sign-on bonus that she will receive on the day the interview is recorded. Sarah replies to Alex that she would think about what he had said and contact him if she wished to proceed. Both Part 1 and Part 2 would be recorded on the same day and then broadcast three weeks apart: Part 1 and 2, recorded on 2 April 2019, for which Sarah would receive $100,000; Part 1, broadcast on TV on 3 April 2019, for which Sarah would receive $250,000; Part 2, broadcast on TV on 24 April 2019, for which Sarah would receive $250,000. Alex also says that Sarah would receive the $15,000 sign-on bonus on 2 April 2019, and that Sarah must not do an interview with any other station until 1 January 2022. However, at the recording of the interview, Sarah was surprised to discover that the questions Alex asked her were substantially different to the questions she had been emailed. Alex also did not mention Sarah's upcoming book, "Not Guilty", around the 59-minute mark. On 3 April 2019, when Part 1 of the interview was broadcast on TV, Sarah is furious to discover that 90 Minutes used clever editing techniques to portray her as a guilty woman who did murder her husband. For example, substantial parts of Sarah's responses were deleted and some of her comments were edited and taken out of context to suggest that she was lying. While 90 Minutes paid Sarah $350,000 for the recording and the TV broadcast of Part 1, 90 Minutes had not paid her the $15,000 sign-on bonus as agreed.
