In setting up an EBSCOhost Medline database search, and using the material we have discussed thus far in the semester, how would you plan out a search to locate such research? Note: You do not have to actually conduct the search in a database, just plan out how you would prepare for it. Utilize your past readings for more information. Be sure to demonstrate in the boxes provided below. Items 1-3 closely follow the Week 8 reading. 1. What are the concepts (or subjects) of the search? Pick out what you think are the main concepts of this search. Look for your population, your problem, and the intervention. 2. Develop a list of representative terms for each concept identified in the preceding step. (Hint: This is what you did in Assignment 2, Part 1. Refer back to this assignment, if necessary.) a. It may be helpful to refer back to your Week 2 reading regarding language issues. Are there any language issues with a concept you've identified that may help you develop representative terms for the concept? Synonyms/related terms? Antonyms? Other issues to consider? 3. Use Boolean Operators to appropriately combine the concepts and representative terms/vocabulary you have identified. a. Remember: in general, i. Concepts are combined using AND ii. Representative terms for a concept are combined using OR 4. Would you use truncation, wildcard operators, or proximity operators in your search? a. Why would you use any of these search tools? Again, refer back to your Week 2 reading regarding language issues. Are there any language issues that would cause you to employ these tools? Word endings? Proximity issues? Alternate spellings? i. If any of these search tools would be employed in an actual search, show how you would use them. 5. Are any of the concepts/subjects you've identified in Step 1 represented by a controlled vocabulary term in EBSCO Medline? (You can use EBSCO Medline or MeSH in PubMed to find your controlled vocabulary terms.) a. Controlled vocabulary issues to consider: i. Are there narrower controlled vocabulary terms below the controlled vocabulary term you've identified? Should you use the explode function to include these narrower terms? ii.
