Bank of America Case Study-HBR
Comment on what is the contrasted between these two paragraphs A and B? How does it relate to in the 3 elements of innovation management? Why is it important to understand these two aspect? Where do yourself consider it is important to put the emphasis:
A-Thus, products and services under development could incubate properly without risking premature termination. After all, no automobile company would want a customer to walk up to one of its dealers and drive away with an untested prototype car. And finally, creating an R&D group charged to tinker allowed for much more organizational focus on innovation rather than a group that was supposed to also show operating results.
B-Many executives, however, felt that a separate R&D center would run the risk of becoming "too hypothetical and impractical." Some feared that results from the I&D Market might then not prove duplicable elsewhere. Marrying experiments with real-world banking facilities would thus decrease cycle time for rollout. As Jones reflected on the thinking of the bank's senior leadership: "We were really looking at being able to execute fastso making a separate R&D center is harder. Furthermore, ideas in some R&D centers never get a chance to see the light of day."
