Paragraph B: Thus, products and services under development could incubate properly without risking premature termination. After all, no automobile company would want a customer to walk up to one of its dealers and drive away with an untested prototype car. And finally, creating an R&D group charged to tinker allowed for much more organizational focus on innovation rather than a group that was supposed to also show operating results.

Paragraph B:Many executives, however, felt that a separate R&D center would run the risk of becoming "too hypothetical and impractical."
