Barte is a food and beverage company. They manage organic snack and beverage brands. Barte is a smaller version of Pepsi-Co. 2021 was a strong year, they were up 20% and 2022 is looking even better due to the pandemic and people's increased snacking. James is the Marketing Manager at Barte. He has been in the job for 5 years and has 8 employees reporting to him. He is responsible for all of the marketing and communications for the whole company. James and his team just recently received the highly coveted Clio advertising award for their latest digital campaign. The office was buzzing with excitement. Mary is a Warehouse Manager at Barte. She has been in this position for 19 years. She has 12 employees reporting to her directly. She is responsible for inventory and day shift maintenance. She manages the warehouse with the assistance of the night shift Warehouse Manager, Pete. They work really hard to maintain a safe environment and haven't had an OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) recordable incident in 3 years, a company record. In fact, they just had a company celebration to commemorate 3 years of safe work. Mary heard a rumor that James had just gotten a pretty sizeable raise. She asked around and found out on the DL (down low) from one of her friends in HR that James was now making $160,000/year. Now furious, Mary closes her office door and says "That jerk makes 160K and I make 90K! How is this fair? That's it! I am going to get a raise right now!" Mary sets a meeting to discuss this with her boss.
