Gloria Lopes, a St. Lucian national was born on June 16, 1963. She lived in Gros Islet St. Lucia all her life and worked as a seamstress since graduating secondary school in the year 1979.Gloria got married in her late 20s and is wife to Jacques Pierre who was an carpenter in the Gros Islet area for over 30 years. For many years Gloria remained married to Jacques Pierre but over the years the relationship became very emotionally and physically abusive for Gloria. Gloria wanted to end her marriage and leave Jacques Pierre but she was scared and felt that she could not make it on her own. Further she felt that is she left, Jacques Pierre would find her and retaliate.
Gloria was the youngest of her parents (parents now deceased) six (6) children, three of her oldest brothers are living in the United States and have families of their own, she has a sister (Ruth) who lives in Castries St. Lucia and her other sister Mary lives in Toronto, Ontario in Canada. Mary was the closest sibling to Gloria and she always asked Gloria to visit her and her family in Canada. Mary is married and has 3 children: two boys Justin and James ages 11 and 10 years and 6-year-old Angelica.
In 2002 Gloria decided to finally visit her sister Mary in Canada and travelled to Canada on her St. Lucian passport. She intended to stay for 3 weeks to spend time with her sister, her niece and nephews. However, when Gloria got to Toronto, ON Canada and spent time, she realized that she liked it and enquired how she could stay in the country. Mary took Gloria to see many different Immigration Lawyers and consultants and they all said the same thing, that Gloria did not qualify for any of the economic programs and that she could not be sponsored as a member of the family class. This news was disappointing for Gloria; all she knew was that she did not want to return to St. Lucia.
Gloria refused to leave and stayed in Canada to present day. During that time, she looked after Justin, James and Angelica. She got them ready for school on the weekdays, prepared their lunches, took them to their after school extra-curricular activities, helped them with homework and took them to the park on weekends. Further she worked 4 days a week for as a housekeeper for a family in Forest Hill, Toronto. Gloria was a member of the Women's sew group at the Agincourt Community Services Association and she often volunteered at the food bank and homeless shelter. She attended the Emmanuel Fellowship Church in North York, ON and she was a member of their women's group. In the year 2013 she successfully completed an online diploma via the Stratford Career Institute.
While Gloria has been in Canada she was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer and is supervised by a medical team at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre where she is receiving treatment. The treatment and the level of care that she is currently receiving in Canada is not available in her in her native St. Lucia. For the duration of the time that she has been in Canada, Gloria has developed a network of close friends who love and depend on her. She works hard and has a solid pattern of financial management. She saves her money and helps her sister Ruth who lives in Castries St. Lucia. Ruth is unemployed and has six (6) children all under the age of 14 years old. Gloria sends money for food, clothing, school fees, books etc. and every 6 months she sends barrels with clothing, school supplies, dried foods, toys etc., for the household. Ruth and her children depend on Gloria's help and without it they would live in absolute poverty.
Gloria has been in Canada for many years and wants to gain PR status. She has done her research and has asked around. She was told that given her circumstances she could submit a Humanitarian and Compassionate application for Permanent Residence. Prepare this application.
