Based on a smartphone survey, assume that 49% of adults with smartphones use them in theaters. In a separate survey of 294 adults with smartphones, it is found that 143 use them in theaters.
a. If the 49% rate is correct, find the probability of getting 143 or fewer smartphone owners who use them in theaters.
b. Is the result of 143 significantly low?
I have tried to solve this problem at least 10 x now. I have the following:
np = 294 x .49 = 144.06
nq - 294 (1-.49) = 149.94
Std Deviation - 144.06 (1-.49) = 73.47 SQRT of 73.47 = 8.57
143.5 + 144.06/8.57 = 0.56/8.57 = 0.06
looked up that z score to find.4701 but that is incorrect.
how can I solve this problem?
