Based on the attached document titled: SECTION 26 CALCULATION AND ASSIGNMENT OF FREEBOARD, each student needs to work INDIVIDAULLY on the following two draft survey tasks!

A vessel is to load a full cargo of iron ore in Sierra Leone for Japan calling at Cape Town and Singapore for oil and water. Minimum bunkers and water are to be taken in Sierra Leone and Cape Town.

From the following details calculate:

(i) the amount of oil and water to be taken in Sierra Leone, Cape Town and Singapore

(ii) the amount of cargo to be loaded in Sierra Leone

Summer deadweight 25700 tonnes Tropical deadweight 26450 tonnes Fuel consumption 32 tonnes per day Water consumption 15 tonnes per day

On arrival Sierra Leone a negligible quantity of oil and water remained. The vessel is to have 4 days reserve of fuel and water at all times

Non-consumable stores: 210 tonnes Sierra Leone to Cape Town 8 days steaming (6 days tropical then 2 days summer) Cape Town to Singapore 15 days steaming (10 days summer then 5 days tropical) Singapore to Japan 7 days steaming (2 days tropical then 5 days summer)

Total distance from Sierra Leone to Japan = 5580 Miles

Average speed = 13.5 knots

( 50 % of the total Mark)
