The article I chose was "Are second-born children more empathetic than only children? A study on empathy development of Chinese preschoolers". I have three children and I love gathering more information relative to my life. Also I found the research's focus on the potential impact of sibling status on the development of empathy in Chinese preschoolers especially interesting. The research has a neat cultural component because it was carried out in the framework of China's two-child policy. Whether Chinese preschoolers with one older sibling and those without siblings have different levels of empathy development was the study's main research question. The hypothesis that second-born children, who have an older sibling, would be more empathic than only-born children was tested by the authors. This theory most likely originated from theories indicating that interactions with siblings might encourage the development of empathy. 180 Chinese preschoolers who were purposively sampled from 14 Beijing preschools participated in the study. Ninety of these were second-born with at least one older sibling, and ninety were only children. Individual tasks were used in the study to measure children's emotional empathy.
